Whitby Tracks
HighlightsWhitby has one of the few lakes in the Wellington region and a well thought out track network
AccessThe tracks can be used to link most areas in Whitby
DescriptionOur house is in Whitby and so I admit to some bias. I love the variety of tracks and the way they link to form convenient loops. I can often be found in Whitby pushing Luka around the lake or taking in the views of the inlet.

Postgate Dr - Kahu Rd
AccessThe track runs between Postgate Dr at the bottom and Kahu Rd at the top with a entry in the middle via Carvel Lane DescriptionThis track will surprise many. Its a shortish concrete track but winds its way through some surprisingly good bush and even offers views once you reach the top steps. The track is often used to link with other tracks and can be part of a loop if you don't mind some road bashing. Another highpoint is the deafening birdsong in spring. Unfortunately the long steps at the end make it difficult if you doing anything other then walking but not impossible.
Topdeck track
AccessThe track runs from the Topdeck through to the Quarterdeck (gotta love those Whitby street names). DescriptionThis track links together TopDeck and Quarterdeck and has some good views out over the inlet and up Paekakariki. In typical Whitby style its a concrete path although not as well formed as the Whitby Walkway.
Whitby Lakes
AccessAccess is via a number of points off Discovery Dr DescriptionThese well used, shortish tracks run round the scenic lower and Upper Whitby Lake. On a nice day you'll be sharing the tracks with joggers, mums pushing prams and groups picnicing on the grass. The lower lake is reasonably well looked after if a little artificial and even has some fish but please keep it that way by picking up any rubbish you find along the way. The upper lake is much more natural but smaller. HistoryWhitby is named after the seaside town in Yorkshire with building of the village starting in 1971. ... (more)
Whitby Walkway
AccessThe track starts opposit Azimuth Place and runs till Discovery Drive near the shopping centre. DescriptionThis track wanders through park surroundings along the side of a gently creek. From here you can go to the top of the ridge on a number of tracks, head for the lakes or just relax and take a stroll.
Zig Zag track - Whitby Walkway to the Yardarm
AccessRuns between the Whitby Walkway and the Yardarm DescriptionThis concreted track links the lower Whitby Walkway with the ridge. The track isn't overly difficult and not particularly long despite zig zagging up quite a steep slope.
